The biggest upset on the women's singles side at Wimbledon 2009 through the third round is that of Melanie Oudin beating No. 6 seed Jelena Jankovic. Oudin beat Jankovic, the former world No. 1, 6-7, 7-5, 6-2.

Oudin, a 17-year-old American, was selected for Fed Ex Cup play earlier this year. She had to win three qualifying matches to get into this Wimbledon, but will move into the Top 100 singles rankings regardless of what she does after this.

It was career win No. 1 in WTA singles for Magdalena Rybarikova at the Edgbaston Classic in London. Rybarikova, from Slovakia, defeated Li Na in the final, 6-0, 7-6, after knocking off Maria Sharapova in the semifinals. Rybarikova was ranked 58th entering the tournament and will move up in the new rankings - perhaps moving past her previous best ranking of No. 46.
